The Difference Between Quartz and Granite Countertops

Quartz Vs. Granite

Pelleco Home Design is your one stop shop for everything Home remodeling in Scottsdale Phoenix AZ.  One question that is asked most often in Kitchen remodeling is what is the difference between Quartz and Granite.

Quartz Pros:

·         Quartz is one of the strongest minerals on the planet.  They are not only stronger, but more flexible than granite.  This makes it easier to work with during the fabrication and installation process.

·         Quartz surfacing is non-porous and requires no sealing.  This means you don’t need to worry about bacteria and other germs growing.

·         Quartz countertops are stain-resistant.

Quartz Cons:

·         Quartz countertops can discolor over time if exposed to direct sunlight.  This is why we don’t recommend quartz outside.

·         There are times that you can see seams with a quartz counter.  If you get a pattern, you are less likely to see any as opposed to a solid color.

Granite Pros:

·         Granite is 100% natural which is why it is such a popular choice.

·         Granite is not as strong as quartz but it is still a strong stone and extremely durable.

·         Granite is one of a kind.  Every slab of granite is different so you will never have the same exact pattern or design.  This is a pro for some people and a con for others.  Some like that no one else will ever have the same exact countertop

Granite Cons:

·         Granite doesn’t offer color consistency. While this can be a pro, it can also be a con if you are looking for everything to be exact and match.

·         Granite is a porous material which means it can harbor bacteria, germs, mold and other unhealthy things in its nooks and crannies.

·         Granite Countertops need sealing.  Because Granite is Porous, it requires sealing every year.  As it becomes compromised, your countertop can get germs and easily stain.

·         It is impossible to hide the seams in a granite countertop.  If you have a stone that has directional movement in the pattern, you will still be able to see the seams.

As you can see, Quartz and Granite are very similar, and it just comes down to personal preference.  To learn more about Quartz and Granite Countertops, visit the Pelleco Home Design showroom at 15000 N Hayden Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85260 or call us at 480-659-0254.  You can visit their website at http://pellecohd.com
